Why it Matters

Learn how widely your application is being adopted and how quickly your users are achieving value from your application. Adopted features contribute to a better onboarding experience and improved understanding of your application, giving you a higher chance to retain users over time. By analyzing your feature adoption times, you can understand how long it takes for your users to start gaining value from your application by using features for the first time. A low feature adoption rate indicates that your users are only working with a limited part of your application, leaving a significant portion of your application’s value untapped.

Definition

Feature adoption measures how many of your active users have adopted selected application features. Active users are users who have used your application in the selected date range period. Feature Adoption=Active Users Who Adopted Feature(s)Total Active Users\text{Feature Adoption} = \dfrac{\text{Active Users Who Adopted Feature(s)}}{\text{Total Active Users}}

Analytics

  • Adoption Score: percentage of total active users who adopted selected features. Feature adoption is calculated by dividing the amount of active users who adopted selected features by the amount of total active users at a given time period.
  • Active Users: total amount of users who visited your application during the selected time period.
  • Users Who Adopted Selected Feature(s): total amount of active users who adopted all selected features for the selected time period.
  • Average Time To Adopt Selected Feature(s): average time it took users to adopt selected features for the selected time period. For features created after a user signs up, the feature creation date is used as the starting point. Otherwise, the user’s sign-up date is used.
  • Feature Adoption Rate Chart: can help you identify your feature adoption trends over time. For example, see if your new application update or new GuideWhale content contributed to users adopting more of your features.
  • Average Time To Adopt Selected Feature(s) Chart: can help you identify trends in the time it took users to start gaining value from your application by using features for the first time. For example, you might see that users are adopting features quicker after you’ve improved your onboarding process or optimized your application for feature discovery.
